I feel that using judgement plays a huge role here and Doris should be set free; she obviously showed performance by staying out of trouble. She embraced the idea that what she did was wrong. The reason why I feel this way is because I often hear the slogan that the intended reason for prison is to punish and rehabilitate inmates. What is the intended end result? Can we achieve rehabilitation without punishment in some cases or do they have to coexists together? Eight months of prison is sufficient punishment coupled with hers efforts to educate her children and volunteer her time to society is evidence of rehabilitation. There’s plenty of evidence here for the governor to grant clemency. I think everyone should be held accountable for their crimes and we should apply those laws equally to everyone regardless of their position or demographics. I also believe that fairness and judgement should apply and there should be room for consideration of extenuating circumstances.
