To me, critical thinking is an ability to engage in inquiry, to question certain truths, norms, and realities, and to explore and find alternate ways in which to create new truths and possibilities. The reason why it is important to keep oneself engaged in a process of questioning and exploring and learning is because there is a danger of remaining stagnant and to existing without the hope for future growth and transformation.
I believe that Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook and new "voice" of feminism, is a critical thinker because she has enabled a whole new generation of women and men to think differently about what equal rights mean. In her work, such as the bestselling book, "Lean In," she has demonstrated a remarkable ability for using her own personal and professional experiences to illustrate her arguments, as well as the latest relevant research from esteemed universities and scholars. Sandberg has managed to ignite a movement that transcends living rooms and classrooms and women's groups, and has garnished attention from industry giants such as Forbes Magazine, dubbing her "one of the most influential women in the world," to the likes of important change-makers like Gloria Steinem, describing Sandberg as, "feminism's new boss."

Hi Maria - I agree with your endorsement of Sheryl Sandberg because she challenges the status quo - asking "why" rather than accepting what is. And I think you're right, if you don't have a questioning mind, you will become stagnant. Many of us working in the non-profit fields are her because we want to bring about change - transform systems. Critical thinking is.....well....critical!
